. This year Operation Kindness will celebrate their 40th anniversary at the annual free event on Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Flag Pole Hill near White Rock Lake. This year’s goal of setting a new world record for the world’s largest dog cake would break the current record set in April 2011 in London – that cake was baked in honor the Royal Wedding and weighed 150.91 pounds.
Sponsored by Blue Buffalo, Operation Kindness is working with Catering by Larry to bake a dog friendly cake that is estimated to be more than 170 pounds. The cake will feature healthy, natural Blue Buffalo dog food; mashed potato and sweet potato icing; carrots and peas for “confetti” and Blue Buffalo treats as garnishes. More than 600 canine guests will receive a complimentary piece of cake, with the first 100 dogs receiving their cake in a commemorative Blue Buffalo dog bowl.

Heroes for Children recognizes Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September by bringing Richardson and its surrounding communities together for a family-friendly event celebrating the hearts of children fighting cancer.

The fundraiser will open with a commemorative balloon release led by co-founders Jenny Dowen and Larissa Linton, followed by the Fun Run and 5K. The Fun Run & 5K are open to participants of all ages. Entertainment will include a DJ and children’s Adventure Zone featuring games, activities, bounce houses and a special area to honor and remember children who have been affected by cancer. The Heart of Gold 5K & Fun Run also promises prizes, awards, giveaways and food.

Virtual Runner available for $25 for those who are unable to attend the event but would love a t-shirt

About Operation Kindness
Founded in 1976, Operation Kindness is the original and largest no-kill shelter in North Texas. Its mission is to care for homeless cats and dogs in a no-kill environment until each is adopted into responsible homes and to advocate humane values and behavior. In 2016, Operation Kindness will celebrate their 40th anniversary and their achievement of saving more than 80,000 animals since their inception. Annually the shelter assists more than 5,000 dogs and cats, caring for an average of 300 animals daily with another 100-150 animals in foster homes.

Dogs, cats and the whole family are invited to sit on Santa’s lap to pose. A helper will snap 10-15 photos per session. Pet parents can choose to have their favorite photo framed in a 4”x6” format for $15, or receive a 4”x6” framed photo and a thumb drive with all of the photos for $25. These photos make great holiday cards, and all proceeds benefit Operation Kindness.
